Isn't she lovely?

I love Abby Wolf's quote on facebook... "really John McCain, really?"  See I read a lot into that.  I know Abby as a student from my jazz band a few years back.  She now finds herself in the same situation many women in the country do after John McCain's VP choice.  As if the history books weren't going to glow with the idea of the first African American Presidential candidate, now there is that added punch of the first woman in the role to become vice president, and possibly president.  Many who were going to vote for Osama Bin Biden were sure that this was that important moment in history for change.  OK, now the women that were going to vote for the first black president realize that in Sarah Palin they have the opportunity to put the real deal in a position ripe with HUGE possibilities.  Not just any woman.  A woman with a hard working husband, 5 children (one, her oldest son, who signed up to serve his country and deploys in 2 weeks for Iraq), an amazing track record of hard hitting gumption.  Yeah, I'm happy with the choice.  The "oh crap" response I know Osama had when he found out, the moral dilema that it is causing Oprah and the pissed off, ready to kill everyone feelings that Hilary has is just icing on the cake for me.  We'll give the drive-by media a week to dig up some dirt on Palin (trust me the RNC has done it's homework) and then we can sit back and watch the fireworks.  I think McCain has been giddy with excitement knowing about this decision and is looking forward to the debates and campaign that will follow.  Guess what people, either way it goes, we are witnessing one of the most important events in the history of our country.

**excuse the more than normal typos, etc. I'm on the road in Nashville, TN heading towards Charlotte, NC.

Poor me. I ain't got no dream

I don’t understand many black people that were interviewed and shown at the democratic carnival. The phrase “living the dream” seemed to be constantly pitched. I always thought that a dream was defined as something that was hoped or imagined that has yet to occur, but two names come to mind that smash that idea when it comes to the black folk; Condoleezza Rice and Barack Obama. Seems to me this “dream” they keep talking about is actually reality. I mean, Ms. Rice is one of the most influential and powerful women in the world today-and she’s black. Barack Obama may soon be THE most influential and powerful human on the planet – and he’s black. So what DO they really want? What is this "dream" they keep dragging around everywhere they seem to go. I tire of the constant whining and ‘poor me’ from these people.

Slogan for Manteca

Obama Bin Biden

Sorry, I can't take credit for it, but it should do the trick.

The Clock is Ticking

Here we are at the end of August and not one post has been written about the upcoming presidential elections.  I wonder why?  I was thinking Saturday morning as I awoke to Fox and Friends and the announcement of Joe Biden as Osama's running mate, that it was pretty sad that we didn't have a catchy, if not cheesy, anti-Democrat jingle.

As I went about my Saturday morning weed eating and yard cleaning, I rolled the names and numerous democratic gaffs around in my mind.  Unfortunately the weed eating line that I was using was made in the USA and lasted approximately 5 yards down the fence row after each replacement, bringing about yelling, cursing and the throwing of the weed eater, line, cutting tool and any small child or animal nearby.  Thus clearing my brain every 8 minutes of any semblance of stupid cheesy lyrics or comedic thought in relation to anything the North American ALQueda, (aka Democratic Party) has done as of late.  Around 1:00 p.m., as dehydration and heat stroke set in, I laid down in the yard to die... ok, to cool off and then die.  I began to think about a nice little tune that could rival the last elections Your a Crook Al Gore.  Luckily for me, I had plopped down in a nice fresh pile of dog poop (Thanks Chester!).  messenger_jeffAs the mingled smell of canine processed 'Ol Roy and the sick feeling of that squishy stuff on my tooshy sent chills up my spine, I realized that dog poop and Democrats were a lot alike.  They both begin life as an amalgamation of things that are not right for consumption, combined into a product that no human dare ingest, provide sustenance for less than 24 hours, show back up REALLY stinky, harden quickly and then disappear within 7 to 10 days. Only to constantly reappear at the most inopportune times and places.  Hmmm... there has got to be a song there somewhere.  I shall call upon the spirits of Randy Newman, Woody Guthrie and Rudy Ray Moore to create the greatest folk/political/uncomfortably anti-social yet not blatantly racist, song of our time...NAY, greatest song of next week.

Yeah, I'm writing a new Democrat Presidential Election 2008 song.  You know you are excited.  I'm excited.  Come on people... get into the spirit!

For those that CARE... August the 15th was our 5 year anniversary.  I believe that is bubble wrap...maybe cardboard.

It has been a long time

I am so sorry that I haven't posted in a long time.  I know I have put up a few silly pictures and a movie or two, but I haven't REALLY posted in about two months.  Why?  Well, Matthew left, I went to TechEd, hired Marilyn Christie to replace Matthew, work called, life called... then school started.  Nothing can ruin a good buzz like returning teachers.  In this school district, it is even worse.  The high school is staring down the barrel of year five school improvement.  The teachers and administrators there act like nothing is wrong and that they are a godsend to the educational process in Hope, Arkansas.  They are not all bad, trust me, some are downright amazing!  Unfortunately most are not cutting the mustard.  Then again, that's just my opinion... what do I know, I've only been doing this fifteen years.

I loved Phynerk's last post on the Watermelon Festival.  Luckily I didn't even have to get within five miles of the place.  I did however hear a great comment on the festival from an Emergency Room doctor from out of town.  "I guess if you've seen one carnival, you've seen them all."  Isn't that the truth.  I guess that makes Ace Cannon the king of carnival musicians.

So classes start here on Monday.  I am hoping that it will be an uneventful year.  I need the break.  I realized that my life has become a merry-go-round of getting by until the same thing rolls around again.  I guess if I kept my promise and rehearsed music with Phynerk like I said I would, maybe my life wouldn't seem so redundant.

Everyone have a great school year, and if you feel the need, come visit us in Hope.  We are still here, same place, same time, same channel.

It's that time again....

It’s happening again. This is that one time in each year that all the cosmic forces in the universe align in such a way that the most heat possible ( just short of evaporating all known life ) is sent to one small ( insignificant ) spot on planet Earth; Hope, Arkansas. Yep it’s time once again for the 32nd annual running of the Hope Watermelon Festival. Yep, break out your best pair of bib overalls and join the melting crowd down at Fair Park this weekend. And, Oh golly, we are in for a treat ( again ) this year to have Ace Cannon with us ( again ). I’m certain he didn’t even have to put our address in his GPS to get here since he’s here practically every year. Wow, I can’t wait. I’m sure he will have a whole new set of songs to share with us. Some we haven’t heard since last festival. I only hope the heat won’t effect ole’ Ace none. I’d hate to hear he wheezed through the whole set. Yep, I’m sittin’ here already lookin’ forward to some good ‘gator on a stick’. Mmmmm it just don’t get no better. So, ya’ll get the car all packed up with your young ‘uns and get on down to the Festival, There’s great fun for all and the heat is free. I’ll see you there for a slice of the gooooood life, friend.
