I learned sumpin'

I like to think that I’m always open to learning new things or to reevaluate certain thoughts, feelings, beliefs, or habits I may have. Well, here I am in Fallon, NV working at one of our other plants. So far while I’ve been here I’ve learned a few things:

  • First, I learned that in the past when I would mention how much I hated the cold weather and the weather out West was in question, the response would always be something like, “ It’s a dry cold”. ( whatever the heck that means) No, It’s COLD darnnit !!

  • Second, I learned something about Mexican music. You see, I’ve been working next to a 1,550 watt boom box all week with the bass eq turned all the way up. The guy playing this thing has it set for the local top 40 mexican hot spot on the dial. I think it's SPIC 1040. Anyway, what I’ve learned is that Mexican music basically stinks bigtime and I believe a person could become an “accomplished” Mexican music bass player in less than 15 minutes.

  • Third, I learned that most people exaggerate when they say they have a few things to say when in reality all they can come up with is two.

You have just GOT to love this town...

Take a gander at this article.

Not sure when the main stream media will get a hold of this, but it should put some kind of spotlight back on Mike Huckabee...

Oh yeah, I hear that it will be ok for Al Qaeda to hand out their version of the  Kuran (Qur'an) to everyone next week, with a complimentary AK-47 with a compass in the stock.

"You'll shoot your eye out..."

Oh, my gawd !!

Climate change is occurring far more rapidly than even the worst predictions of the UN's Nobel Prize-winning scientific panel on climate change, Al Gore said on Thursday.
Recent evidence shows "the climate crisis is significantly worse and unfolding more rapidly than those on the pessimistic side of the IPCC projections had warned us," climate campaigner and former US vice-president Gore said.

Confusion abounds!

When entering "www.convoginators.com" into the input field through which the algorithm (hereafter "Thing-A-majigger") receives its data, we receive the following rank:

WTF Mate?

Whereas entering the actual blogspot address "http://convoginators.blogspot.com" into the Thing-A-majigger returns the following level:

Again, WTF?

I am so confused.

Jeff C.

Algorithm explained

I was able to obtain the algorithm to the website which scans an inputted blog and returns said blog’s “readability level”. Since none of you are really capable of understanding such a technical oratory ( except Kyle ) I will attempt to put the algorithm in terms that the ‘lay’ person will be able to grasp.

First, the algorithm ( herafter refered as the program – I don’t like trying to remember how to properly spell algorithm each time I type it) reads the inputted blog’s URL address.

Next, there is a 0.001 second delay at which time the readability level is returned as “ HIGH SCHOOL”.

Proof that this is the case is that before Jeff C’s last post our blog received a “HIGH SCHOOL” readability level and after Jeff C’s post; the same. Clearly we should have seen a much higher rating if the program was anything more that I previously described. Thus, proving once more that you can’t believe everything you read on Al Gore’s Internet.

Test Post

The following is a test post to determine the reliability of the website purported to ascertain the reading level required to understand your blog, hereinafter "CONVOGINATORS."

The CONVOGINATORS started its reign as the foremost authority of chocolate-infused milk ("leche" to all our Spanish speaking readers) approximately four years ago. It was created by the perspicacity of Manteca, eRIc, Matthew, and myself. Other flamboyant characters soon joined the fracus, including TaterSalad, P, Phynerk, Josh, Seashell, and Raincheck. The continued participation of these members save Phynerk has been despondently lacking. Many attempts have been made to shame these black sheep into more adequately fulfilling their responsibilities, but alas thus far the prodigal children have yet to return to the fold. May this post serve as a caveat to those that due in part to their inattention the reading comprehension level required of this blog is: Elementary.

Thus, in order to elevate our required reading level to something more befitting our prestigious membership, I submit the following words in hope that whatever voodoo sorcery is used by the program that assigns such ratings will be fooled into declaring our site to be a more appropriate "TV-MA."

As the algorithm that the program uses is unknown to us, and indeed I have serious doubts about my ability to spell much less comprehend "an algorithm," my selected word list will be quite varied. It will encompass words of foreign language, scientific and legal jargan, and words generally assosciated with mature audiences. Perhaps this will have the desired effect, if not, I hereby move that Phynerk educate us all on the origin and uses of these so called "algorithms."

The List:
Sober
Poop
La derecha
Usufruct
Homoerotic
Reaganomics
Mein leiben
Caveat emptor
Aerodynamics
Mollusk
Marsupial
Vagabond
Res ipsa Loquitor
Inebriated
Feces
Warrant
Fuselage
Empenage
Aileron
Hydrodynamics
Juxtaposition
Die Hard 4: Live Free or Die Hard (Also known as Die Hardest)
Circumnavigate
Ponce De Leon
Waypoint
Stool
Inter vivos

If the aforementioned list has no effect, then I shall weep for the future of our great society. A society where one man can make a difference, and illiterate people can still graduate high school.

Jeff C.

We gotta' do better, people !!

The Turbo Button

I watched that Bill Gates video and it humored me and at the end it said it had been edited by tweakvista.com, and i just started running vista so i was curious to see what sort of tips they had...

so i was looking through it and one of the links said "increase your SATA HD performance" so i checked it out and this is what i found...

Do you have a SATA disk drive in your computer? If so, you can squeeze a little more performance out of your hard disk. This speeds up the performance of your hard disk by enhancing write caching. However, if your computer is not connected to a battery backup and you loose power you have a increased risk for data loss or corruption. If you have a laptop your chances are data loss or corruption are dramatically less since your laptop battery will kick on if your power source is lost. Let's get started:

  1. Click on the Start Button and key in Device Manager and hit Enter.
  2. Expand Disk Drives.
  3. Right click on your hard drive and select Properties.
  4. On the Policies tab, check Enable advanced performance.
  5. Hit OK and close Device Manager.

I started laughing out loud when i got to step four. it reminds of my summers as a tech at the school when josh jeff and i would go from class to class cleaning up the old computers and we would laugh about the turbo button which would boost from like 12 mhz to 33 mhz...

enable advanced performance... i love it.

Today there were these two back-to-back headlines on Drudge Report.

  • First snow in 100 years falls on Baghdad.
  • Global warming has not stopped.

So what am I missing?

Taking a break from the politics

I think you will find this very entertaining.

Father-Daughter Talk

Found this on another website, no author was cited:

_______________________________________________________________________

A young woman was finishing her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the "redistribution of wealth." She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.

He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she wastaking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her notime to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because shespent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?" She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."

Her father then asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Hey Matt

Matthew has his eyes on a new TV......

What's happening???

President-to-be Mike Huckabee spoke at a non-denominational church yesterday in Windham, NH called the Crossing. If you will check the transcript of his sermon you will see there was not a word of politics spoken. Mr. Huckabee did what he was/is ordained to do – preach. As I understand that is still lawful to do so in the United States of America. I spent the better part of the last hour reading comments from all over the country and world concerning people’s reaction to Mr. Huckabee’s sermon. You never heard so much belly aching over “the separation of church and state” in your whole life. I know I may be showing my age a bit here, but I can clearly remember when a person was admired for being honestly “religious”. Today, anyone who claims some relationship with the Creator is stripped of any honor or intelligence whatsoever. I truly pray for our nation. I can’t imagine God’s patience to continue in light of the escalating level of hate towards Him. My Bible keeps saying that it is God that is the source of EVERY GOOD and PERFECT Gift. Why won’t people understand that ?

Why is Osama in front of Mike???

I hate to say it, but unfortunately for Mike, he just painted a HUGE target on his forehead.  They started almost immediately attacking him on EVERY news site.  He is now going to be portrayed as the Christian nut job hick from Arkansas who is out to preach to the country.  Rush Limbaugh has even weighed in already.  I think it is interesting the the Democrats had so many people turn out in Iowa (over 200,000) to push crazy Obama into the lead, and even Laura Ingraham decides that the Obama camp is "full of energy."  Yet, Huckabee gets a huge turnout for him, and those are crazy evangelicals.  Just wait, Huckabee and Christianity will take a hit over the next year.  So now, everyone from Arkansas are lucky to have shoes on... Great, I just started wearing shoes...

The last train to Clarksville...

You know sometimes we get GREAT ideas.  The only problem?  We usually try them in the production environment and not on a test system.  This has been the case today with my attempt to open VPN access to my Windows Home Server.  It worked...kinda.  Then on the fix, I worked my way backwards and wound up here...
whsreload

So to make a long story short...well yeah, you can see that the reinstall is going well.  Luckily there was only a little over 100 gigs on the server at this point.

I wish I was back here...two of my favorite places with my three favorite people...

Just waitin'

Here we are on the eve of the Iowa caucus and all is quiet.  Well, all is quiet at my house.  I have been watching a little on the news channels about the happenings in Iowa and the excitement that is growing among the Iowans and the candidates.  Then the water boiled, so that drew my attention away from the television.  Lets hope tomorrow offers more excitement...

This happens to be my new favorite band...
