A Few Rungs Down

Article

No more talk of him being The One (Oprah), or a Jedi Knight (George Lucas), or a "Lightworker" (the San Francisco Chronicle), or a "quantum leap in American consciousness" (Deepak Chopra). Instead we have more humble and circumspect conversation about the man. Now he's merely Abraham Lincoln and FDR and Martin Luther King, combined.

Sorry, I just had to.

Flow of Government

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

. From bondage to spiritual faith;
. From spiritual faith to great courage;
. From courage to liberty;
. From liberty to abundance;
. From abundance to complacency;
. From complacency to apathy;
. From apathy to dependence;
. From dependence back into bondage.

- Alexander Fraser Tytler (October 15, 1747 - January 5, 1813)

And how are we "good" ??

Good....compared to what? Somewhere along the lines of comparison, there needs to be a 'good' that is absolute. Let's see, it's not my parents. As much as they were anchors for me, I saw them make their share of mistakes. So, what about.....Manteca. Now there is someone you want to be like, but once I heard him play a wrong note. So...Oh yea, Matthew. Now there's a guy you can envy, but don't be within two city blocks when he passes gas. So then where do we look for this 'goodness' we are to emulate? How about......God. The Bible ....yes, the Bible says that He is the very source of all good. Hey, why not give Him a try. He's good...no He's beyond wonderful.

The armor for the battle.

This is an article written for the Examiner by one of the super brains behind Powerlineblog.com, Paul Mirengoff.  I received a note the other day from a friend/reader on how to handle the outcome of the election.  I believe that Mr. Mirengoff addresses that need perfectly.

Worry, but be happy: Coping with an Obama presidency

Almost by definition, Barack Obama's election meets with the approval of a majority of American adults.  Many are wildly enthusiastic about the prospect of an Obama presidency.  More probably reside somewhere between cautiously optimistic and indifferent.

But this column is addressed to politically active conservatives who fear the worst and are now wondering how to cope. The key, as always, is to maintain one's equilibrium.  To this end, I offer, unsolicited, the following suggestions:

First, pray that President Obama achieves greatness in office.  Our overriding concern must always be the country we love, not the success of a party or an ideology.

Don't assume that Obama is always wrong.  Judge all of his positions on the merits; don't conclude that a position is wrong just because he takes it. Republicans tended to fall into this trap with President Clinton.  For example, some opposed our military involvement in Kosovo based not on an analysis of the situation there, but rather on a knee-jerk anti-Clinton response. This approach is irresponsible and unpatriotic.

Conservatives almost certainly will quickly find that, from our perspective, Obama is wrong far more often than he is right.  To that extent, it will be our duty to oppose him.  But in doing so, we should keep in mind these guidelines:

* Be loyal in your opposition.  As my blog partner Scott Johnson puts it, paraphrasing Steven Decatur: "May he always be in the right; but our president, right or wrong."

* Be patient in your opposition.  Don't mimic the left (this is always good advice) and conclude that because the country isn't getting mad about policies that bother you, Obama is therefore a "Teflon president."

In fact, you should stop reading the first 10 pundits who call him that.  Americans are fair-minded.  They will give Obama time to succeed, as they should.  The mainstream media will buy him additional time.  But eventually the honeymoon will end.

* Be persistent in your opposition.  The first 100 things that you criticize Obama for may not resonate at all.  The 101st may turn public opinion against him.  More likely, it may supply the mass that begins to turn the tide.

Be fair in your opposition.  None of the 101 things that you criticize Obama for should be illegitimate or trivial.  Remember that the president isn't responsible for every adverse development that occurs on his watch. Even sound decisions often produce adverse consequences.  Don't judge Obama's decisions in a vacuum; compare them to the alternatives.

Be skeptical in your opposition.  Obama's campaign was fueled by a broken promise ? that he would finance it through public funding.  Obama also dissembled when he minimized his relationship with William Ayers by characterizing Ayers as someone who just lives in his neighborhood. In fact, the two had collaborated several times, including on a radical, unsuccessful educational initiative.

And Obama almost certainly dissembled when he disavowed knowledge of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's views about America despite having listened to Wright preach for almost 20 years.  Under these circumstances, it would be foolish to view Obama's pronouncements with anything other than skepticism.

But the skepticism should run both ways, extending to attacks on Obama as well.  The temptation to invent or misrepresent facts for political gain, or just out of sheer spite, is a bi-partisan phenomenon.

We don't know how the Obama presidency will turn out, but we have complete information about certain key institutions that ran interference for him.  Here are some suggestions on how to respond to them:

* "Secede" from the mainstream media.  After Republican victories, some leftists like to talk about moving to Canada or somehow "seceding" from the U.S.  Such talk, and that's all it is, is unpatriotic and should be avoided.  However, "seceding" from the mainstream media (MSM) is another matter.

Independent media watchdog groups, and even some members of the liberal MSM, have confirmed what was obvious throughout the campaign: coverage of Obama was vastly more favorable than coverage of McCain.

Which angered you more, the New York Times story suggesting, quite baselessly, that John McCain had an affair with a lobbyist, or its gossipy hit piece on Cindy McCain late in the campaign? What was your reaction when a Washington Post fact-checker challenged the accuracy of a McCain campaign advertisement that relied on the self-same Washington Post as its source?

If your newspaper's campaign coverage consistently infuriated you, why not cancel your subscription?  If a network's news programming, or that of a public broadcasting station, struck you as unabashed cheerleading, why not stop viewing its broadcasts permanently?

Seceding from the MSM doesn't mean no longer accessing the information it provides.  The goal here isn't to exist in a conservative echo chamber; the goal is to withdraw financial support from our political adversaries.  The MSM's content generally is available for free online.

* Support fledgling conservative institutions.  The left has "marched through our institutions" - including the MSM, Hollywood, the public schools, academia, and even large swaths of corporate America.  Conservatives need to respond by developing alternative sources of information, entertainment, and education.  These alternatives won't succeed unless we support them.

My final tips are the most personal ones, and therefore the most important:

* Don't hate.  I don't assume that the Obama administration will turn out to be hateful.  But even if it does, hating isn't good for you.  And for conservatives, it's counter-productive.

* Don't obsess.  Spend as much time as you see fit following, discussing, and participating in public affairs.  But don't think about them the rest of the time. Life is full of beauty and wonder.  Don't let politics blind you to it.  Life is full of opportunities for personal and professional fulfillment.  Don't let politics distract you from them.

Look the Comedy News Network (CNN)

dlhughleyI used to refer to them as the Clinton News Network, but now with the addition of D. L . Hughley, you  can't tell the difference between a news channel and Comedy Central.

The piece of a show that I saw was no more than what the Daily Show (with Jon Stewart) pulls off everyday.  Way to go CNN, make us respect the main stream media even more!

D. L. does a great job of reprising his role from the NBC series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.  The one with blatant liberalism with underlying racist tones.  He is acting isn't he?

Obama is already planning 4 new programs and a draft

Change.Gov

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation's challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Poor little girl

Get ready to be a little upset.

Brow beating of a little girl

A president-elect that broke all campaign fund raising records hires a guy that can do the same.

Rahm Emanuel has been chosen as Chief of Staff for president-elect Barak H. Obama. Here is some of the fund raising highlights:

Emanuel served as a fundraiser and operative in the Clinton administration.

Emanuel was a chief advocate of the $700 billion Wall Street bailout.

His top source of campaign funds this year was the subprime-rattled UBS (the Swiss bank's PAC and employees gave, corporations cannot give campaign contributions), who benefited from the housing bailout which Emanuel supported and has already shown an interest in expanding.

The $96,900 Emanuel pulled in from hedge funds places him above any Senator besides presidential candidates.

Emanuel garnered from hedge funds more than the top 11 Republican lawmakers, combined.

Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan are also in Emanuel's top-five career sources of campaign cash.

Commercial banks lined Emanuel's pockets, too, with $121,100, placing him fourth among House members.

Emanuel received more money from the securities and investment industry-$600,500 as of September 30-than did any other member of the U.S. House, and more than two presidential candidates (including Joe Biden) and the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

Now this would be a doctrine for fairness

Good article of wishful thinking.

Let's have the FCC require that the networks designate their news people with either a  "D" or a little "R". Some examples: "Katie Couric (D-CBS)", Wolf Blitzer "D-CNN", "Keith Olbermann (D-MSNBC), "Chris Mathhews (D-MSNBC), Bill Moyers and Gwen Ifful (D-PBS) and yes, Joe Scarborough (R-MSNBC). Get the idea?

Also helpful would be short bits of bio information, like: "Stephanopoulos (D-ABC) was Bill Clinton's press secretary", "Buchanan (R-MSNBC) ran for president three times, was a speech Writer for Richard Nixon, and communications director for Reagan," "Matthews (D-MSNBC) was press secretary for former House Speaker Tip O'Neil (D-MA)" and "Mark Shields (D-PBS) worked on several Democratic presidential campaigns".

What do we do while we wait until the Honeymoney is over

Of course most of us right now are just smiling and being congratulatory and such, which we should. Politics is a battle and one side has to win. No matter how someone wins the ends is that they did win. I am not happy that we lost but I do see the positive things in this election.

This is a country where the balance of power has changed hands. The most powerful country in the world can be handed from one side of the aisle to the other without bloodshed or wars. This is a true testament to our great country. We also live in a country where a minority WITHOUT the help of welfare or government social programs can rise to the very top of the political system to be the commander in chief. This is something to be proud of. Anyone can be anything in this country if they truly want it and work for it.

But like these great truths of about our country there are even more important truths. Free speech and real equality to everyone. Obama in his presidential term will try to accomplish many things and two of them that stand out in my mind first and foremost are The Fairness Doctrine and the Freedom of Choice Act neither of which are fair or allow more freedom.

We must fight both of these on the internet and in our workplace. Just because Obama is the force of change, these two things must not be changed.

Election Results At A Glance

Oh yeah, I posted.

The Last one. . .

This is it. . . last post before the voting begins.  I think this is a great song and a GREAT theme for the shame that is Obama.

If you do nothing else for me this year, read these two articles. . .and buy me a nice Christmas present. READ these two articles first.

 This is a wonderful piece about McCain.

ObamaSayzNothin

This is also a great work on the crap that is Hijack Obama and Joe Biden.

OK, this is for those people that Murtha picks on. . . you know, rednecks.

I normally wouldn't put something up like this, but it points out that many have no idea what it going on.  They are  easily swayed by the "shock and awe" of the negative campaign.  Then again, hey, maybe some of it is true. Please be advised that the opinions expressed in this video are not those of the convoginators.  I would give this a PG rating.

Oh, and yeah I still can't stand the no talent, no experience, secretive,  mutli-faced, lying, selfish, opportunistic fool who is Obama.

I knew I was overreacting. . .

It is true, I helped an alligator and now he sows pond scum into golden thread whilst singing sweet lullabies with the voice of cool running water.  ahhh. . .

So how many mortgages do I have to pay and will I have to fill these gas tanks by hand or will they bill me?  I wonder how many college graduates over the next three years will be singing a different tune?  Will that tune be a nice little communist/socialist anthem?

So I guess it will be my patriotic duty to get rid of my big house I work hard for so that I can contribute more money to the people that InHock Slowbama has promised free mortgages and gasoline too?  Soon we will all be equal and mediocrity will reign.  No one will be special and they probably won't even change or even wash the tongue depressor before they stick it in my. . . mouth.

I know, I AM overreacting, it is going to be a GREAT country to die in.

Windows 7 - You will use it!

Sinofsky_With_Win7_Eee_2

-from Gizmodo (Oct. 28, 2008)

Windows honcho Steve "Don't Blame Me For Vista, I Was Running Office At The Time" Sinofsky hinted that he would whip out an impressively low-powered device to show how skinny Windows 7 can get. Sure enough, today at his keynote at PDC 2008, he waved a Asus EeePC running Win 7 with a 1GHz processor and just 1GB of RAM.

What will it be like as Rome burns?

The realization that Obama will most likely be president is one that I am trying to grasp so that if it happens, the shock won't kill me.  As the day draws near I find myself talking to more and more people who have no clue what is actually going on.  Many are just "tired of Bush" and "want the Clintons back."  Although there are many similarities between "the one" and Dirty Bill, the Obama administration/occupation will be much different.  In fact, I will predict that many of you who read this blog will see change, change that affects you VERY close to home, over the next four years.  Change that will divert the course of your lives in such a dramastic (that would be dramatic and drastic combined) way that all that you hoped and dreamed for will be just that, dreams.  I pray that I am wrong, but at this point, I cannot fathom it.

With the victory of Obama, and the control of congress by the democrats, we will see homosexuality taught as an "alternate" lifestyle in our public school, gays marrying each other and reaping all the benefits that true genetically reproducing heterosexuals have.  The included studies of evolution, and subsequent censoring of creationism, Christian teachings, Judaism and morality will all but disappear from public schools.  Replacing those will be the koran, free love and the Lord only knows what.

Some reading this will call it hate speech, ultra conservatism, blah, blah, blah.  No matter, once Obama wins, the democrats will begin calling in their favors for making him the first black president.  You can't blame him.  For every five laws he pushes past his desk for Pelosi, Reed, Murtha,gay and lesbian lobbyist, etc.  They will be so inclined to pass two or three of his through congress.  Soon the college masses, you know the ones that riot when their football team wins the big game, will be his foot soldiers.  As they graduate their universities with degrees in advanced hugging and kissing under the Obama scholarships, they will go forth and drive his views and that of the liberals home.  That is as long as the iTunes keeps pumping out the music, facebook and myspace keep them informed of the next kegger, the wealth it spread and the cell phone bill is paid, then all is well in Obama-Utopia.  When they load you in the railroad cars and you see your friends at the bottom of the hole right before you fall face first into the lime, remember, you allowed it to happen.

Then again, I could have had WAY too much halloween candy and the sugar is causing my conspiracy delusions.  Yeah, that's probably it.
