I'm still here, where's eRIc?!?
Once again, by using eRIc as my yard stick, I can justify not having posted for an excessive length of time. I guess I could easily justify it without eRIc, but it's just not as much fun to say that I've been quite busy. In the past two weeks, I've "worked" nine days, some of which have involved as much as 12 hours of flying a day. 5-7 hours seems to be more common, and that doesn't include the time spent on the ground. I have become quite familiar with southeastern Louisiana and can reccomend several airports and FBO's based on everything from fuel prices, courtesy cars, customer service, the proximity of restaraunts, and the quality of vending machines. I have also had the honor of gracing the skies and airports in parts of other neighboring states including Texas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi. Sometimes, I visit each of them at least once in same day. I am being compensated quite nicely, however, and it's a good feeling to realize that my skills can be put to good use. Plus, it's the coolest job I've ever had, I'm just waiting on a bigger plane.
In other news, I got a 161 on my LSAT, which puts me in the 84th percentile in the nation, not shabby considering my studies are primarily in avition sciences. Now I'm just waiting to see if any law schools like me! Off to read, tomorrow's another day in the friendly skies...

Chips & Salsa, You Say??
Yeah, I know it's been a while. Such is life. Anywho...
I finally got my new iPod yesterday, and it is wonderful! It's black and says "seashell" on the back, but on to the important things... The videos look great! I bought six videos (Sting, Diana Krall, John Mayer, Nora Jones, Coldplay, U2) just because I wanted to be able to use my video capability. iTunes doesn't really have many videos yet, but they look really good on the iPod, as do my pictures, most of which I got from the Cap'n and have airplanes in them. I went ahead and put all of my music on the thing because it's actually capable of holding all of it. I'm sure I'll eventually take a lot of it off because even though I keep it around for some reason, a lot of it is crap. Oooohhhh, and it has a longer battery life. My only beef is that it doesn't come with a wall charger or a FireWire cable, which leads me too a question that I'm sure at least one of you guys can answer: Can I still use my old wall charger and FireWire with this iPod? Just wondering before I destroy it or something.
In other news... I've become an advertisement for Mac. I inspired one of my music buddies to get an iPod last Christmas, and when her computer died a few weeks ago she ordered a Mac. I convinced one of my roommates to get an iPod nano for her birthday, and now Farsheshe wants an iPod for Christmas. I'm pretty sure I'm going to sell my old iPod to me mam so she can give it to Kenzie for Christmas. They're starting young these days.
Are we going to have another Convoginators Thanksgiving Extravaganza this year? I haven't been to Hope yet this semester and might not be until Thanksgiving, so I'm gonna need something fun to do... or good to eat.
Well, I'm off to read about Rome. Such is the life of a history major.

Goodbye Sweet Songbird!
Shirley Horn 1934-2005
I was lucky enough to see Shirley Perform Live in Addison, Texas with my two jazz compadres Kyle and Jamie. She was an unbelivable mistress of time. She will be missed tremendously! manteca

Coffee time
Interesting, I rarely ever drink these. Hey at least it’s not a mocha-capa-frapa-non-fat-skim-latte or something. You Are an Iced Coffee | At your best, you are: hyper, modern, and athletic At your worst, you are: cheap and angsty You drink coffee when: you're out with friends Your caffeine addiction level: medium |
WTF is up with the RSS Feed???
OK, for the second week in a row my rss reader is getting bombarded with posts that are not from the Convoginators blog. I’ve checked the rss address and everything is good. I’m getting hit with random posts from all sorts of random blogs. Today I almost got sucked in to posting a response to a post before I realized it came from some site I had never seen. So again I ask WTF is going on with the feed? Is anyone else seeing anything like this? -k

The other side of the story...
Here is the transcript of the interview of Delay and Rush.
Here is the Audio
Ronnie Earl is a DA of Austin who has made 13 indictments of his political enemies. The only reason that Delay is indicted is because of a House rule that states that the Majority Leader has to step down during and hearings. It is interesting to hear other facts of this fight between Delay and Earl. There is so much more happening that the media doesn't talk about.
Supply and Demand...
Working in a flight school environment could give on the impression that in order to make a decent amount of money as a pilot, one must be at the airport for almost eighty hours a week. Even so, the amount of actual flying and thus the amount that the school would actually pay you would be approximately half that amount, and thus one could make more per hour with an hourly job at your local Wal-Mart. I have seen the light. I have seen what happens when you position yourself in a market where you are one of very few (or possibly only) commercial pilots in an area. Suddenly, your services can command two to three times the rate of that at a flight school. And so it has become that in just two days I have doubled my average bi-weekly paycheck from a certain Big 12 school where I tried often in vain to pass along the knowledge and experience bestowed upon me by so many others. It's fun getting paid to fly, it's even more fun to get paid well to fly. One minute I'm sitting on a couch in Conway with a good movie and a great woman and a phone call and a two hour drive later I'm trying to coax a few more knots out of an old Cessna 182 on my way to Baton Rouge. The sky is clear, the stars are out, and it's smooth as glass. Sometimes, this undoubtedly the greatest job in the world. It even gave me a moments thought as to how I could give this up to go to law school given the chance. The answer came all to quickly to me as well. This is not my airplane, it belongs to the nice man sitting in the back. I'm at his beck and call, and although I am thankful for the opportunity, I realize that at some point the weather is not going to be nice, the airplane is not going to be so compliant, and a small voice in the back of my mind is going to tell me to stay on terra firma. The part of me that needs money is going to tell me to go, and I never enjou being in that position. Flying is a passion, and I would hate for it to become work again. I want to put myself in a position where I'm calling the shots, and I don't have to go if I don't want to. Plus, it would be nice to have an office to make a living in, even when the gales of November come early...
I'll figure out in three weeks if I need to take the LSAT again... let's all keep our fingers crossed and contribute to Jeff's Legal Education Fund. Everything you give is deductible* (*from your bank account)
Oh, and Raincheck, don't fret about dropping a class. I, personally, have dropped two and I still graduated a semester early. It's amazing how you barely notice the "W" on your transcript.
