I was reminded today that it was election time here in Southwest Arkansas. Bubba Powers was on KXAR with Mark Keith. Great show, that mixture of Jerry Clower meets the people who live in the woods and eat possum down the road from me really gets me going in the morning. It also keeps me right on target with every bowel movement at the hospital and any case of foot and mouth disease that Mr. Roth might know of. I digress...
The interesting part this morning were the comments that Bubba Powers made concerning the people he has met on the campaign trail and their many concerns. During those remarks, he blasted the insurance racket, institution by stating that "we all pay too much for insurance." Then he decides to bring Mark Keith in on his next comment with "we've talked several times about the problems with our schools." Now I must agree these two statements are true (and luckily Mark Keith changed the subject a bit...it's amazing how that man can get a random, useless factoid about a musical artist and an album that no one has ever heard of into any conversation) I just think that when you run for office, you probably shouldn't blast the majority of your local business...ie: insurance (running a close second in Hope behind auto parts stores) and definitely not one of your largest voting bases, teachers and the education community, ESPECIALLY if you are on the school board. Now I can tell you if I had a nickel for every time I ran into a school board member visiting the campuses, I would have...well, not enough to buy a 5 cent piece of gum. So being a member of a certain organization shouId empart some sort of loyalty...it seems. I also expect a little more cheesy, politician "kissing up" from the people that want my vote. I guess my point here is that I'm a little disappointed that once again we hear the promises and know that the outcome is one of smoke being blown in a certain southern region.
Hey, promises are promises...see you at rehearsal Phynerk....
