Pride vs. Common Sense, Round 1

A councilor in Yellowknife, Canada learned all too quickly that "equality" is not the agenda for many groups advocating "alternative lifestyles." First brought to my attention by the nice people at Tonguetied.us, the CBC reports that the City of Yellowknife is canceling their proclomation of "Heterosexual Day" in the community. Councilor Alan Woytuik introduced the proclomation in response to a request by the city to have a Gay Pride Day.

"I am not anti-gay and I'm not advocating denial of anyone's rights or promoting discrimination. In fact, my position is just the opposite. I fully support the fundamental principle of democracy that everyone should be treated equal.

"I feel many people have misinterpreted the intent behind my request. The proclamation was in response to Out North's request for Gay Pride Day, but it was not intended as a protest against the ideals of Out North," said Woytuik.

Obviously, having pride in being straight can only be construed as hatred and bigotry by the "tolerant left." Many groups calling for so called "equality" really want no part of it. They want special treatment. As much as I have to disagree with the lifestyle choice these individuals have made, I would be far more tolerant of the situation if I wasn't constantly being bombarded with their political ideology. I could liken the situation to being perpetually assaulted by an internet popup window. Instead of prompting me to assail a primate or various political or celebrity personalities with weapons ranging from virtual boxing gloves to ray guns, it is large and "We're Here! We're Queer! Get Used to It!" is flashing in very obnoxious colors. This popup window is also very difficult to close and is constantly being rewritten to find it's way around the most judicious of popup blockers. Here's a piece of advice to everyone, if someone doesn't ask you what sex you are attracted to, chances are they really don't want to know. I just don't care anymore. So you're gay, so what. Just sit there and shut up. You're not special, none of us are. That's equality.
