On Liberalism and Responsibility.

My biggest beef with liberals has to do entirely with the mentality that you are not responsible for your own actions. "Crime is society's fault" is my favorite liberal battle cry. Life isn't always fair, otherwise it would be called "Heaven." Just because an individual is dealt a lesser hand in the big poker game of life doesn't mean they are justified in violating the rights of others. All too often liberals tell me what a horrible person I am because I am a white, anglo-saxon protestant male. (WASP) I am told that I have no compassion for other cultures. I am told that my culture is oppressive and I should be ashamed to be who I am. I am told that the morals and values that I hold dear are chauvanist, outdated, and "non-inclusive." It doesn't matter to liberals that other cultures are not sensitive to me, that's just tough sh!t, and they point out once again that I should be ashamed to be what I am and should pay reparations for slavery. Number one, I have never owned any slaves. Number two, no one alive in THIS country today that is demanding reparations has ever been a slave. How can I apologize for something that I never did?

Because I believe that we should hold people accountable for their own actions, I am told that I am not compassionate. Because I believe in family values, I am told that I am intolerant. Because I believe that the money I earn is mine and I don't want the government to squander it, I am told that I am not paying my fair share. How do you think that makes me feel? To be told time and time again that I am what is wrong with society. If someone repeatedly attacks you and your way of life, you really don't have much use for them, now do you?

I hope you understand, Mr./Mrs. Tagboard Poster. I have given my political position a great deal of thought, and I have arrived at this position after much deliberation. Liberalism appears attractive to individuals who don't take the time to think through a problem. It's only natural at this point in life to be in that predicament. There's an old saying that I believe sums it all up:

If you're eighteen and conservative then you are cold-hearted, but if you are thirty-five and liberal, then you are just retarded.

Best of luck to you,
Jeff C.
